Homemade Apple Cider
[grandma's recipe]
10 large apples, quartered
1 large orange, halved
4 cinnamon sticks
1tsp whole cloves
1tsp all spice
1 whole nutmeg
1/2 cup of brown sugar, packed
In a large stockpot over medium heat, add apples, oranges, spices, and brown sugar. Cover with water by at least 2 inches. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer. Covered for 2 hours. Remove orange halves, then use a potato masher or wooden spoon to mash apples. Return to a simmer and let simmer uncovered for 1 hour more. Strain (use a fine mesh strainer), pressing on solids with a wooden spoon to squeeze all juices out. Serve warm! Makes 4-5 servings.
Medicine Ball
[inspired by Starbucks]
8 oz hot water
8 oz lemonade
1 bag of Teavana Jade Citrus Mint tea
1 bag of Teavana Peach Tranquility tea
1 tablespoon honey
1 pump of peppermint syrup [optional]
In a large kettle, heat the water over high heat until it's just below boiling. Heat the lemonade in the microwave on high heat until it's steaming, about 1 to 2 minutes. In a large mug, combine the hot water and lemonade. Add the tea bags and honey and stir to combine. Steep for 5 minutes and enjoy. Makes 1 drink.
Creamy Caffeinated Goodness
BONUS! For those not ready to let go of summer, here's an iced drink option.
2 tablespoons instant espresso
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons hot water
Extra creamy oat milk
Combine espresso (recommended: Cafe Bustelo), sugar (raw is better but white sugar will do) and hot water in a large bowl. Whisk it until it becomes thick and creamy. Fill a mason jar with a half cup of ice and oat milk to the first rim. Top with creamy goodness. Enjoy. Serves 2 people.
